The Auburn football team played host to a number of top recruits over the weekend, including 4-star linebacker Lewis Carter, 3-star offensive lineman Connor Lew, and 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb.

4-star defensive lineman Anthony James was on the Plains this weekend, as well, and the Tigers seem to have made a fantastic impression on the Wylie, Texas, native. James is listed as the #184 overall recruit and the #27 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 in addition to being the #33 recruit out of the Lone Star State.

Originally committed to the Texas A&M Aggies, James walked back his commitment earlier this summer with a plan to explore all of his options, and he now has Auburn football at the top of his list, per Auburn Undercover:

"“Definitely at the top,” James said about Auburn. “I’ve got one more visit and then I’m going to make a choice early July. There’s no one else really recruiting me like they have and after this weekend it’s really showing.”"

Although James is scheduled to officially visit Washington next weekend, the defensive lineman raved about his visit to the Plains and the effort that the coaching staff have put into his recruitment. He spoke about how his versatility makes him a good fit for the Tigers, whose end goal is to help James get to the NFL:

"“The way they want it is they want me to prepare for the NFL, if I choose to go there, so that’s as a defensive end, defensive tackle,” James said. “I can play any one of those. You can be more useful if you can play multiple things.”"

The defensive lineman also got the opportunity to spend time with his would-be position coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, and talk about everything from football to life and family.

Following James’ official visit to Washington, he plans to make a decision between the Tigers and the Huskies near the end of July. With all of the effort from Auburn to earn James’ commitment, there’s a good chance he ends up playing college ball on the Plains.
