Auburn basketball HC Bruce Pearl soaked in the 2022 College World Series matchup between the Tigers and Stanford Monday afternoon, which AU avoided being the last game of the season by beating the Cardinal 6-2.

With the loss, Stanford is eliminated. Ole Miss/Arkansas is next on the schedule for Auburn Tuesday night.

Pearl took a picture with 2022 Tigers star Sonny DiChiara, a transfer from Samford who has become the anchor of the Auburn lineup. While DiChiara struggled on Monday, striking out three times, one away from the infamous ‘golden sombrero’, he could go down as one of the greatest one-season wonders of all time on the Plains.

Pearl caught the Tigers’ bats finally awakening, with 11 hits making up the six runs scored. There were no home runs hit but had five extra-base hits, including two doubles from Cole Foster, who left Saturday’s game against Ole Miss with a sickness.

Speaking to Foster’s sickness and the rest of his lineup’s stomach troubles, Butch Thompson provided some context to his team’s struggles throughout the College World Series and the lead-up to it:

"“There’s a list of excuses that weakens us that we don’t have to talk about — traveling across the country and seven or eight guys on the toilet too much and not feeling well from a tough week. Every one of those are excuses. We got to post and play at one of the most special opportunities these boys — most of them will ever get in their life is in front of them today. So none of that matters. All of these excuses, you flush ’em, you put ’em away, and you got opportunity to go out and win a ballgame today in the College World Series.”"

Auburn cannot lose another game if they hope to be one of the College World Series’ final two teams.
