Auburn football: 4-star WR Karmello English sets commitment date

While many of the top recruits in the class of 2023 are still ironing out visit dates and cutting their lists down to a select few top schools, Auburn football wide receiver target Karmello English is nearing his decision date.

English has been a top target of the Tigers for a long time, but it has been a bumpy journey. As one of the top recruits in the state of Alabama, the Crimson Tide was gunning for English for a long time and Auburn football fell out of his recruitment.

However, the hiring of wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard proved to be a major boost in the eyes of English, and in the past few months, the Tigers have surged to the top of the list for the young WR. Listed as the #141 overall prospect and the #23 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2023, English is also the #13 recruit out of the state of Alabama, and we know by now that head coach Bryan Harsin has made a strong push for in-state recruits in this cycle.

According to Auburn Live, English’s relationship with Hilliard is still a major factor in the WR’s decision-making. He spent time on the Plains this week for an official visit with some of his family members, and the Tigers continue to raise the bar for the young wide receiver:

"“It went great, even better than I expected,” he said. “I learned more stuff about Auburn than I already knew. I even talked to the equipment manager more than I’ve ever talked to an equipment manager.”"

Auburn Live also reports that English has narrowed his options down to just three schools ahead of his commitment date, which is on July 2. He will choose between Kentucky, Auburn, and Michigan, where he will take an official visit this upcoming weekend.

Though anything could happen, the 247 Sports Crystal Ball projects English to land at Auburn, and the Tigers have done everything they can to put themselves in a good spot with the 4-star WR.
