If you really think about it, Auburn football being in the hunt for any top recruit is a testament to the pull the Plains has. A team coming off a losing season is somehow competing with the defending national champion for a recruit that already committed to said national champion.

The Bulldogs have legitimate competition with the Tigers for Langston Hughes High School 4-star OT Bo Hughley. Of course, when your name is Bo, Auburn is where the head and heart know you should be.

Hughley committed to the Bulldogs back in September but is still taking visits, which has opened the door for Bryan Harsin and co., leaders of a new culture that is hopefully an agent of change in 2022.

According to Hughley, he only gets to do this once (h/t DawgNation):

"“Honestly, this is one of the hardest processes of my life. I’ve never been like this. Been through this. Right now, I’m committed to Georgia. That’s home. Locked in. If anything ever changes, everybody will see. But right now? Georgia. I’m still taking visits, though. Why not? I only get to do this once.”"

You know what else you only get to do once? Step onto the home field for the first time in your college career. Clearly, seeing Jordan-Hare Stadium first-hand and experiencing the city of Auburn has to offer has given him something to think about.

Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin needs on-field results to get Bo Hughley to trust fully trust him

All the talk of potential and expectations in the world won’t actually give your words on the recruiting trail depth. What will actually earn legitimacy is results on the field. Fly War Eagle will say that until we’re (orange and) blue in the face.

When asked by DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell what’s keeping him a door, his answer was Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart. That answer will never be Bryan Harsin as long as his Tigers hover below .500. He’s competing with teams with one or two losses. 2021’s output won’t cut it.

If the improved culture translates to on-field results, recruits will flip with the momentum building for Harsin on the Plains. That break needs to happen first. Several more will need to follow. But even now, Migos’ Quavo needs to nervously ask if the colors (orange and white) of the emojis Hughley uses means he’s still a Dawg.
