With the June recruiting period in the rearview mirror and the NCAA dead period lasting until July 24–meaning that coaches can’t speak in-person with recruits or their families–Auburn football could really stand to add a few commits to their two-person 2023 roster.

While 4-star offensive lineman Bradyn Joiner (Auburn, AL) and 4-star safety Terrance Love (Fairburn, GA) are big, important additions to next year’s team, having only two commits so far is far from an ideal situation.

Today, a long-time target of the Tigers, 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb, will make his final decision about where he will begin his collegiate football career. Ranked as the #207 overall prospect and the #8 running back in the recruiting class of 2023, the Montgomery Catholic athlete is also the #18 recruit out of the state of Alabama. The RB will choose between three finalists in Auburn football, Tennessee, and Clemson.

For several reasons, Cobb committing to Auburn would be a massive win for the Tigers. Keeping in-state kids playing ball in the state has been a big priority of head coach Bryan Harsin’s, and missing out on a talented athlete from just down the interstate would not be a great look.

It’s also important that the Tigers recruit talented running backs because this will likely be Tank Bigsby’s last year with the program before trying to make his way in the NFL. The coaching staff is looking to take two running backs in 2023, and Cobb would be a great start.

Multiple 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictions project the running back to choose to play on the Plains, and the Tigers are widely considered to be the leaders in his recruitment. By the end of today, we should know whether or not 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb will be an Auburn Tiger next fall.
