Auburn football is mostly predicted to tank the 2022 season before dismissing second-year head coach Bryan Harsin by pundits, but WJOX co-hosts of “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning,” Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic, decided to take the road less traveled en route to their own prediction.

According to the pair, the Tigers could surprise many in 2022. Cubelic specifically stated that AU is capable of starting off the upcoming campaign 5-0 during their five-game home-stand to start the season. That would include consecutive victories over Mercer, San Jose State, Penn State, Missouri, and LSU.

While being within the friendly confines of Jordan-Hare Stadium will make that imposing gauntlet (imposing starting Week 3 on, anyway) easier to handle, Bryan Harsin has his work cut out for him to stick around as head coach after a disastrous end to the 2021 season and even more disastrous winter, given the Auburn BoT’s inquiry into his conduct.

Cubelic, the former Tigers center from 1996-2001, explained his reasoning for projecting such a successful start to the 2022 season:

"“I feel like a 5-0 start is possible. If you got that, and then you drop the Georgia game, then I think you need to go 2-2 in the next 4. Ole Miss on the road, Arkansas, Mississippi State on the road, A&M.”"

Alabama alum Greg McElroy is also high on Auburn football

While the former Nick Saban-coached Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy may be a local radio show host, he is also not obligated to appease anyone when speaking on the air about his own alma mater or its main rival.

McElroy said that he’s ‘cautiously optimistic things could get going a little bit for Auburn this year’, while also admitting that he and Cubelic gave the Tigers several games that other pundits wouldn’t, such as Penn State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
