The Auburn football coaching staff was hit with a wave of transfers this past offseason, but one player that decided to stick around was Ze’Vian Capers — a junior-to-be who has been a reserve receiver for the majority of his time on the Plains.

Capers has not been targeted often during his time in the AU WR room, amassing just 13 catches in two seasons. With that said, he has averaged double-digit yards per catch over his 11 appearances for the Tigers over that time.

Top option Kobe Hudson rejoined the man that recruited him, Gus Malzahn, in Orlando–adding that he’d be on the first bus back to Auburn if Malzahn once again became head coach–and WR3 Demetris Robertson took to the NFL in hopes of landing a training camp invite. Upperclassmen Shedrick Jackson and John Samuel Shenker will be back, but there’s a void behind them on the depth chart with several unproven pass-catchers in the mix at the moment.

That’s where Capers comes in. According to Auburn Daily and Locked On Sports’ Zac Blackerby, the Cumming, Georgia product could be rewarded for sticking with the program and not taking to the transfer portal like his fellow Peach State wideout Hudson did:

"“Props to Ze’Vian Capers for not transferring. Culture now tells you if you lose playing time, you leave. I think this coaching staff will reward him for staying.”"

Auburn football receivers have a golden opportunity to break out in 2022

There’s very little continuity from last year’s team, so every current Auburn football WR has the chance to establish themselves in what should be different looking offensive sets from new OC Eric Kiesau.

With Bo Nix gone, there’s a chance for every wideout to become a featured option in an offense run by Zach Calzada, assuming Heisman odds released earlier this summer are indicative of the Tigers’ QB choice.
