Bryan Harsin is a common pick for many to be the next SEC head coach to be relieved of his duties after an 0-5 end to the 2021 Auburn football regular season and an offseason inquiry in February that nearly had him fired with cause — a move by Allen Greene, via the influence of the Auburn University Board of Trustees, that would have meant the Boise native would be let go with no buyout.
CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee reiterated his belief that Harsin is on the hot seat, but noted that the Tigers HC is the only SEC coach in peril. Sallee stated that ‘outside of Harsin, there really aren’t any coaches on the hot seat in the conference.’
Harsin will have his first chance to address this past offseason’s inquiry to the national media this coming Thursday during SEC Media Days. LSU, Ole Miss, and Missouri kick off the festivities this Monday at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta for just the second time in history.
According to Sallee, a ‘wild amount of speculation and reading between the lines on where he stands’ should be expected when Harsin gives what the CBS analyst expects to be pre-canned answers to the crowd.
Barrett Sallee believes Bryan Harsin needs ‘one of the most miraculous coaching jobs in recent memory’ to stay employed
It’s not going to take a good or even great season for Bryan Harsin to stay employed on the Plains in East Central Alabama’s most influential position. Several weeks ago, Barrett Sallee said that Bryan Harsin needs ‘one of the most miraculous coaching jobs in recent memory’ to remain head coach of the Tigers. That was the first time he insinuated that Harsin’s seat was hot.
It certainly is, but after SEC Media Days, the best thing Auburn fans can do is take things one game at a time. Penn State will be a potential ‘bellwether‘ for the season, and after that, it’s an all-SEC schedule, minus Week 12 vs. Western Kentucky.
A 1-0 mindset is all you can have right now.
