USA Today: ‘Bryan Harsin does not rank among SEC’s top talkers’
USA Today’s Blake Toppmeyer took a shot at Auburn Tigers HC Bryan Harsin’s personality in a reaction column to AU’s SEC Media Day titled ‘Bryan Harsin can’t talk his way off the Auburn football hot seat.’
Toppmeyer said that ‘Harsin does not rank among the SEC’s top talkers or dazzle with his personality,’ and excluded the Boise native from the group of coaches that could ‘buy a little extra time’ because of a dynamic personality.
Even if Bryan Harsin has the sun shining over him, the national media will be pointing out the black clouds ready to rain on him in the background. Their mind has been made up about him since his COVID-19 vaccine stance and isn’t likely to change.
Harsin was the star of media day, coming correct with a quote that should have any Auburn fan ready to run through a brick wall:
"“There was an inquiry. It was uncomfortable. It was unfounded. It presented an opportunity for people to personally attack me, my family and also our program. And it didn’t work.”"
Until Bryan Harsin and the Auburn Tigers get their desired on-field results, they will hear it from the national media
There isn’t a ton of nuance regarding how the national media covers college football. Once Harsin wasn’t willing to disclose his vaccination status to reporters, the vultures circled in anticipation of the Tigers HC screwing up.
The conclusion to the 2021 season was perfect fodder for the anti-Harsin crowd, and until his team turns the tide on the field, he will continue to receive snarky attacks like this one from a writer who a piece this past Tuesday with the headline ‘Nick Saban isn’t losing his grip at Alabama, he’s preparing for his finest hour.’
Fly War Eagle is hoping his seat freezes over and these narratives die out so the Plains can focus on moving past this past February’s nightmare of an inquiry.
