Bryan Harsin had some very interesting comments regarding the Auburn football offense he plans to deploy during the upcoming 2022 campaign — and it could give fans of a certain A-Day hero hope.

While speaking with reporters at AU’s 2022 SEC Media Day, Harsin hinted at the possibility of creating unique offensive packages for a QB other than the starter:

"“The thing about the quarterback position, too, is you may have other guys in there too that contribute. It’s not like I haven’t done that in the past, where you got another guy that also comes in and plays and is a part of it, maybe in a package and some other things.”"

AL.com’s Nubyjas Wilborn added that ‘(T.J.) Finley has the most experience in an Auburn uniform, and (Zach) Calzada played well at Texas A&M, but neither would offer the change of pace that (Robby) Ashford could.’

No matter who the starter is, Auburn football will seemingly deploy several QBs in 2022

The old saying goes, “If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.” At this point in the offseason, there still hasn’t officially been named a starter in the Auburn football QB room, so that adage is not one that speaks well for the Tigers heading into a pivotal 2022 season for the Bryan Harsin era.

Zach Calzada is the heavy favorite to win the job, but given his struggles at the end of last season–caused by a shoulder injury suffered as the Aggies’ QB against Auburn last November in a 20-3 Texas A&M victory–perhaps the offense could use a change of pace.

Robby Ashford showed during the A-Day spring game that he can lead an offense as a dual-threat, and Wilborn conceded that ‘Harsin could start Finley or Calzada with a package for Ashford, which could confuse opposing defenses.’ From the sounds of it, Finley could be the odd man out in this offense if he doesn’t have a great fall camp.
