Danjel Purifoy clinched the first victory for Team War Ready in TBT over WoCo Showtime on Sunday afternoon when he hit the game-winning 3-pointer with the game knotted at 67 with the Elam Ending target score set at 70.

Tim Quarterman, who played his college ball at LSU from 2013-16 before going undrafted and playing for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2016-17 and the Houston Rockets in 2017-18, set the game-winning deep-ball up with a pick-and-pop at the top of the key that perfectly evaded WoCo Showtime’s Cameron Jackson’s grasp and fell into Purifoy’s hands.

Purifoy’s 3 found the bottom of the net and clinched the TBT victory for the Auburn alumni squad, which has gone winless the past few summers under both the ‘Team War Ready’ and ‘Team War Tampa’ monikers.

Team War Ready was missing its top player

Undoubtedly, the player that got the most hype for this year’s TBT Auburn alumni squad entry was Bryce Brown, who missed the Sunday matinee due to back spasms. Malik Dunbar was also out due to a personal family matter, while UAB product Chris Cokley also sat. Brown was the most expensive addition to the team, as the Team War Ready organizers had to come up with crowd-sourced funding to pay for his roster spot.

Regardless of the trio’s absence, the remaining roster, which featured Mustapha Heron, Quantez Robertson, TJ Dunans, Antonio Hester from Mobile, Isaiah Williams from Georgia State, Liam O’Reilly from Gardner-Webb, Tim Quarterman, and the star of the afternoon, Danjel Purifoy, got the job done.

It remains to be seen if Brown will be able to return for the team’s next game against ETSU’s alumni team, the Bucketneers, on Tuesday night. The Bucketneers eliminated Team War Ready from TBT in 2021.
