After an extremely successful weekend on campus for the Auburn football program, the Tigers are hoping for more recruiting momentum sooner than later. Though the two commitments during Big Cat Weekend towards the class of 2024 is huge, there is still work to be done in the class of 2023.

One of the most important visitors on the Plains this weekend was 4-star edge Ashley Williams. A native of Louisiana, Williams is ranked as the #350 overall prospect and the #37 edge in the recruiting class of 2023, and is the #18 recruit out of the state of Louisiana.

Williams committed to Nebraska on July 10, but soon after became a top target of the Auburn football coaching staff. He remained committed to the Huskers throughout his weekend on the Plains, but posted on his social media shortly after Big Cat that he would be de-committing from Nebraska.

Immediately, Williams began trending toward the Tigers, with multiple expert predictions in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball. Now, after having cut ties with the Huskers, Ashley Williams is officially on commitment watch.

The 4-star edge told Auburn Live that Auburn was one of the only schools to keep in contact with him after his commitment, which he really values along with his relationship with his would-be position coach Roc Bellantoni.

Prior to his de-commitment, Williams planned to officially visit both Auburn and Nebraska in the fall, but that could potentially change if he decides to commit to the Tigers in the next few days. He plans to attend either the Penn State or LSU game at Jordan-Hare Stadium this fall.

With only five edge rushers on the roster, three of whom are likely to play their last season for Auburn football in 2022, earning Williams’ commitment would be a big deal for head coach Bryan Harsin in his second year on the Plains.
