Auburn football fans should be excited about what AL.com’s Nick Alvarez said about Bryan Harsin and his coaching staff’s focus on recruitment: the Tigers are making an effort to boost the trenches.

Referencing Louisiana’s Ashley Williams and Florida’s Wilky Denaud on the defensive end and Auburn High School product Bradyn Joiner on the pass and run protection side, Alvarez cited the fact that AU has already matched the number of lineman recruits on both sides last year as his proof.

As the AL.com writer relayed, the work on the trail from Bryan Harsin and position coaches Will Friend, Roc Bellantoni, and Jimmy Brumbaugh, should take center stage this month as the Tigers aim to climb out of a notable recruiting hole.

Auburn football is currently 63rd overall and ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in 247Sports composite’s team rankings.

Who Auburn football is targeting in the trenches this offseason

In terms of trench recruits to look out for, there are several from all over the map the Auburn football staff is eyeing.

On the defensive side, where the team recently landed two EDGE recruits, there is Naquil Betrand. Betrand is a Northeast (PA.) High three-star tackle that stands at 6-foot-7, 310-pouns. He told Rivals in June he would “likely” flip to Auburn from Colorado.

Local product Vysen Lang from Pike Road’s and Langston (GA.) Hughes High’s Bo Hughley–a teammate of Class of 2023 Terrance Love and potential Class of 2024 QB recruit Air Noland–could announce their commitments within the coming days/weeks.

There might be momentum for Hughley to make way to the Plains based on a recent tweet he liked from a Tiger fan questioning why he’d commit to a program (Georgia) whose fans are ripping him on social media.

Stay tuned, Tiger fans. One of Gus Malzahn’s biggest recruiting weaknesses may be course corrected by the new coaching staff before long.
