Auburn football OC Eric Kiesau had the spin-zone of the century when discussing the Tigers quarterback battle — which is now bleeding into late August with still no definitive word from the coaching staff on who the winner of the said battle will be.

When talking to reporters about the ongoing auditions under center for Zach Calzada, T.J. Finley, Robby Ashford, and Holden Geriner, Kiesau said that it’s a good problem to have. That, though, goes against traditional thinking when it comes to your starting QB.

As the old saying goes, ‘if you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.’ But Kiesau had a brilliant spin on that, one which actually places the pressure on teams like Missouri, who is behind the 8-ball potentially needing Sam Horn to contribute out of the gates.

Check out Kiesau’s explanation as to why Auburn football doesn’t actually have a problem with their QB1 still being unnamed:

"“It’s going to be exciting. I’ll tell you what, it’s a good problem to have, because the flipside if you could have one guy, or a freshman, and you have to kind of — ‘Ooh boy, we have to get this guy ready.’ Well, now you have three, four guys that really have ability and a couple of these guys have some experience, and obviously (two have) SEC experience.”"

Auburn football has a ‘heavy favorite’ to win the starting QB job

While the Auburn football coaching staff hasn’t yet officially named the starter in 2022, they’ve at least given the Tiger beat enough to surmise that Zach Calzada is the ‘heavy favorite‘ to win the job. Justin Hokanson of On3 had that scoop.

Bryan Harsin has hinted he may use Robby Ashford in special packages, but it sounds like it’s all systems go on QB1 Calzada assuming his body holds up post-injury.
