When head coach Bryan Harsin came to the Plains in 2020, he talked a big game about utilizing the tight ends more than previous Auburn football teams, and we saw that play out through tight end John Samuel Shenker in the 2021 season.
The tight ends continue to be a strength for the Tigers, and one of them is turning heads in the offseason. Tyler Fromm, heading into his third year on the Plains, is beginning to find his role on the team.
During fall camp, the tight ends have been rotating a lot, and Auburn football TE coach Brad Bedell praised Fromm for his physicality and development, per Auburn Live:
"“He’s really showing some things and he weighs 245 or 246 now. Now he has seen the confidence from the weight room and trying to get in there and be more physical. That’s a huge asset for us to have another tight end that is physical to go with what we’ve already got. He’s really taken that next step in his development.”"
When Fromm started out with the Tigers years ago, he was thought to be a pass catcher with his slender frame, but with his added weight, Fromm is expected to be more physical in the 2022 season and could be utilized more as a blocker in addition to his ability as a pass catcher.
Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston notes that at fall camp practices, Fromm is still frequently being use in the slot, and while he is much more physical, the Tigers have certainly not forgotten about his receiving capabilities. Instead, Fromm’s improved size and strength mean that he fits into most scenarios on the offense, providing him extra opportunities to see the field in 2022.
We can expect Brad Bedell’s position group to be a major asset to the Auburn offense this fall.
