Auburn basketball has a potential game-changing freshman making his way to the rotation this coming winter. His name is Chance Westry, and in Israel, he showed that he can defend at the highest levels of collegiate-aged play.

His seven steals against the Israeli All-Star Select Team was a work of point-preventing art and the six-foot-six perimeter threat’s all-around contributions throughout the Tigers’ tour of Israel showed the AZ Compass Prep product isn’t shy in his first go-round in an Auburn uniform.

Westry has similar hype to freshman Camden Brown on the gridiron, and Jerran Anderson of Busting Brackets added a little fuel to his fire when he praised Bruce Pearl’s prized Class of 2022 addition in a piece entitled ‘Chance Westry showing he belongs in Tigers rotation.’

Anderson noted that while playing time won’t be easy to find with two returning high-usage guards, not to mention returning fifth-year starting floor general Zep Jasper, the right role for Westry would make the Tigers ‘lethal’:

"“KD Johnson and Wendell Green Jr. are both back in the Auburn backcourt, if they can find a role for Westry with his length and ability at 6-foot-6 on the wing, they should be a lethal squad, especially on the defensive end of the ball.”"

Auburn basketball Class of 2022 PG Tre Donaldson could push Chance Westry to the wing

In Israel, Tre Donaldson showed poise on the big stage in big moments, successfully starting during the team’s second and final victory with a  plus-27 in just 14 minutes with five points and five rebounds.

His style of play is exactly what Bruce Pearl looks for in a point guard, and his ball-hawking nature–likely developed during his time as a defensive back in high school–makes him a must-play for the team’s culture, much like Chris Moore.

The right role for Chance Westry may just have to come on the wing, where he can back up Allen Flanigan at the 3.
