With the 2022 Auburn football season set to kick off in a week, there is all-consuming Auburn drama taking over the Plains in the form of now-former Athletic Director Allen Greene IV stepping down from his post.
Greene was seen as a lame duck that was likely to be let go when his contract expired this coming January due to the supposedly unforgivable sin of hiring Bryan Harsin. The results of this coming season were obviously going to be weighed heavily, so let’s hope Greene didn’t bail because he was bearish about how things would go this fall.
With Greene gone, a plan must be in place to replace him. There may just be, as there is already a name to watch in the search for the next Auburn University Athletic Director — and he’s a familiar face to the Auburn family.
That’d be Auburn Executive Associate Athletics Director of Compliance, Rich McGlynn, as AL.com’s John Talty shared via his verified Twitter account:
The internal name to watch at Auburn if the school goes in-house for next AD is Rich McGlynn. He is very well-liked by Bruce Pearl and has the backing of some influential boosters.

Finding the next Auburn football coach could be the first big goal of the new AD
We all want Auburn football HC Bryan Harsin to succeed in his role coaching the Tigers, but how is he expected to do so when the Auburn Board of Trustees continually does things to undermine him as a leader?
It’s unknown what exactly led to Allen Greene stepping down, but given the way in which this offseason unfolded, it’s fair to assume they had a hand in it even if Jimmy Rane denies their involvement.
Should Harsin struggle once again in Year 2, Auburn’s brain trust will have no issues sending him packing — and the new AD, whether it’s Rich McGlynn, Tommy Tuberville, Charles Barkley, or Kay Ivey herself, will have a first major task on their plate to replace him.
