Auburn football Director of Football & Recruiting Relations Trovon Reed sure knows how to hype up an audience — especially when his encouragement is needed most, which right now certainly qualifies as.

As you’ve certainly heard by now, Allen Greene is out as the Auburn University Athletic Director. He announced his departure Friday afternoon before both the Duke AD and Tennessee AD decided to take shots at the AU athletic program.

That chaos caused unrest in an Auburn football fanbase that was fearing what Greene’s departure might mean, considering Greene’s contract renewal come January likely depended upon the Tigers succeeding (or at least having a winning record) in 2022.

Well, Trovon Reed singlehandedly shifted the mood with one simple tweet connecting 2022 Auburn with the vaunted SEC Champion 2013 team:

Auburn football needs Robby Ashford to be the next Nick Marshall for any chance of the same success as 2013

The 2013 Auburn Tigers were loaded with talent on both ends of the ball, with an offensive lineman drafted No. 2 overall and multiple picks in the first several rounds. Certainly no one is projecting the former. The latter might be a possibility, though, and that could be the key to a surprising season this fall. Tank Bigsby is a future NFL running back, and multiple members of the defensive front (Derick Hall, Eku Leota, Owen Pappoe) could be bound for the pros as well.

Stocked with talent, the Tigers have a serious chance to shock the SEC and college football world at large. But only if they can get their own version of a 2013 Nick Marshall-type playmaker under center.

The only QB in the room with those kinds of traits is Robby Ashford. If he can wrestle the starting job away from T.J. Finley in the next several weeks before the Penn State game, perhaps Auburn football can replicate their winning formula from nine years ago.
