Bad news struck the Auburn football team yesterday from a recruiting standpoint when 4-star wide receiver Karmello English, an in-state prospect, backed off of his pledge to the Tigers. However, just one day later, another 4-star wide receiver is locked in on Auburn.
This morning, 4-star wide receiver Adam Hopkins announced his commitment to Auburn football, choosing the Tigers over Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee, and Florida State. He is ranked as the #189 overall prospect and the #24 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2023 in addition to being the #17 recruit out of the state of Georgia.
Hopkins made his way to the Plains last weekend to visit during the San Jose State game and was blown away by the gameday experience, from the environment to the coaches and recruiting staff. He hopes to make it back this weekend when the Tigers take on the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The 4-star wide receiver recently rose on Auburn football’s recruiting board with receivers coach Ike Hilliard making Hopkins a priority for the Tigers. According to Hopkins, Hilliard was one of the biggest factors that led to his commitment, per Auburn Live:
"“Oh yeah, he played a big part, really,” Hopkins said. “He had gotten in contact with me because I had gotten in contact with him. After that, we just started talking every day on a constant basis. That bond is getting to where when we just talk, it’s not even on football levels. We just have a regular conversation throughout the day. So like, with him, and me committing, he had a big role in it.”"
This commitment comes at the most opportune time after the loss of Karmello English, and it’s clear that Coach Hilliard is working hard to upgrade the Tigers’ wide receivers room for the coming seasons by loading up in the 2023 class.
