Auburn football just took a brutal 41-12 loss on the chin from Penn State in what was a damning bellwether game for the rest of the season if Paul Finebaum was correct in calling Week 3 that in the preseason.
Quarterback play continued to be uninspiring as expected, but more disturbingly, the defensive front was pushed around by the Nittany Lions’ offensive line. Sean Clifford had a relatively quiet night at least relative to expectations, but the RB trio of Nicholas Singleton, Kaytron Allen, and Devyn Ford feasted to the tune of five+ yards per carry — with Singleton going for 124 yards on 10 carries.
It was a disturbing effort from the Tigers, and certainly casts a shadow on the next two matchups against Mizzou and LSU. Forget Georgia. Auburn football will be going ‘Between the Hedges’ as a sacrificial lamb. But lose to Mizzou and/or LSU?
Bryan Harsin would be as good as gone.
OutKick’s Clay Travis already doesn’t expect him to survive the season…
He also has an idea of who the Tigers can pursue as a replacement:
The better career move for Lane Kiffin would be to stay at Ole Miss and avoid Auburn football
The sole reason Lane Kiffin is better off sticking around in Oxford as opposed to making his way to the Plains has nothing to do with the current state of either the Ole Miss or Auburn football programs.
Instead, it has to do with his own resume. Kiffin has been known to jump schools, being fired in year four at USC but leaving Florida Atlantic after building a sustainable recruiting structure was on his own accord.
If he leaves Ole Miss after raising the Rebels’ standard to go to Auburn, he’d be a flight risk from the minute he steps on campus.
