College football analyst Dan Wolken of USA Today Sports — a noted critic of Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin for his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine from a season ago — made a snide remark on Saturday regarding the Tigers’ coaching staff.

Namely that they were ‘quiet quitting’ — an informal term for the practice of reducing the amount of effort one devotes to one’s job per dictionary.com.

The only coach truthfully deserving of that criticism was Will Friend, whose offensive line has woefully regressed in 2022. Despite the ups and downs on Saturday, Harsin’s group didn’t relent and took advantage of a tragic missed field goal by Missouri in the closing seconds to win it in overtime.

LSU could be the next last stand for Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin

There is a legitimate case for the Harsin-hating boosters to sway interim Athletic Director Rich McGlynn into firing the Tigers head coach after Missouri gave away the game in the fourth quarter and overtime, but that’d be a momentum killer for the program.

Instead, expect LSU to be a do or die scenario for Harsin in what could be his last stand at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Escaping with a victory against Mizzou is one thing, but with an October looming with matchups against SEC world-beaters Georgia, Ole Miss, and Arkansas after the Tigers’ five-game season-opening homestand concludes against LSU, momentum is a must.

If Auburn football can’t move to 4-1, Zac Etheridge, Cadillac Williams, Trovon Reed, or someone else internally could be considered for the role. Names like Deion Sanders and Hugh Freeze are also popular options — with Freeze being more likely considering the Florida State roots of ‘Prime Time.’

Either way, win next week, and the talk of replacing Harsin will die. Lose, and his time on the Plains will instead.
