Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin is on thin ice, and that’s probably the worst-kept secret in the entire sport at this point — especially now that Georgia Tech has dismissed Geoff Collins after topping out at 3 wins as the Yellow Jackets HC.

Harsin would not be leading the Tigers right now if Missouri didn’t twice hand away Week 4’s matchup in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter with a missed 26-yard field goal and then again in overtime with a touchdown run that was foiled by a fumble at the 1-yard line.

With analysts already handing the head coaching job to Jackson State’s Deion Sanders, it isn’t a matter of if, but rather when, the AU boosters and interim athletic director Rich McGlynn pull the plug on the Harsin era on the Plains.

Opelika-Auburn News deputy editor and sports editor Justin Lee believes a key SEC rivalry matchup — and not just any, but the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry game — will be Harsin’s last as head coach:

Auburn football and LSU has already proven unpredictable for the public

It’s tough to get a read on LSU-Auburn football considering all of the factors involved — namely whether or not LSU can perform well on the road under Brian Kelly, having lost a neutral site game not far from campus, and the Jordan-Hare Stadium voodoo under the lights on October 1.

Vegas sportsbooks initially had AU laying a few points on the spread, but the odds have shifted wildly in favor of the Bayou Bengals. LSU is a touchdown favorite, but things could certainly shift again as the Tiger Bowl nears.
