Following a 21-17 loss to LSU in which Auburn football gave up three unanswered touchdowns after building a 17-0 lead in the first half, there are a literal handful of Auburn fans hoping to have Bryan Harsin as head coach for another game.

Koy Moore’s interception — yes, that statement is somehow not a misprint — in the fourth quarter perfectly encapsulated just how lost this team has been since the Harsin hire when it comes to second-half play-calling. Per On3’s Justin Hokanson, Auburn’s offense has 26 punts, 8 turnovers, and 3 total TDs, and is now 12-for-61 on third-down conversions, including 4-for-29 in the fourth quarter. Another Hokanson nugget of maddening information: in the last seven Power Five games and 2023 Big 12 member Houston in the 2021 Birmingham Bowl, Auburn has averaged just three points in the second half.

These losses stick in the minds of recruits, AP voters, and potential coaching candidates. No one remembers how well the team plays in the first half. Hell, last year’s 6-2 start has all but been buried in the minds of analysts everywhere. Auburn football has serious brand issues, but there is one man that can singlehandedly turn the tide.

That’d be ‘Prime Time’ Deion Sanders, who ‘may’ be an Auburn football head coaching target — this according to FOX college football analyst Bruce Feldman during an appearance on Saturday, October 1st’s Big Noon Kickoff:

Auburn football better target Deion Sanders as the next Tigers head coach

Auburn football ‘may’ target Deion Sanders? No. They have to, for the sanity of the fanbase. To take it a step further: they better. With Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels knocking off the No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats in a gridiron war, you could scratch his name off the list for the time being. With Hugh Freeze’s Liberty Flames’ one loss coming to a ranked Wake Forest team, he may want to stick in Lynchburg and continue building an independent powerhouse.

There’d be no excuse for letting Georgia Tech sign away the biggest star candidate away when there is a serious need ‘Prime Time’ would satisfy for a much more football-centric program on the Plains. That ‘may’ better become an ‘is’ as soon as possible.
