So far, the 2022 Auburn football season has not turned out exactly the way people wanted. Aside from several tough losses, the Tigers are also dealing with multiple players being out due to injuries or other situations. One of the most impactful losses took place just last week with Eku Leota getting injured against LSU.

Now, another member of the team will be sitting out on the sidelines for the rest of the season, but by his own choice rather than an injury scenario. True sophomore wide receiver Landen King, who made the switch to WR from tight end during the offseason, announced that he will be redshirting and sitting out for the rest of 2022.

Throughout his two-year career on the Plains, King has logged six receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown. This season, he has caught just one pass for 24 yards as the Tigers work on nailing down the depth chart for the wide receivers.

Does this mean that the young player is planning to move on from the Plains via transfer portal following the end of the season? According to the man himself, he has no plans to transfer and loves Auburn and his teammates.

Landen King told Auburn Live that his decision to transfer was based on two factors, one being his lack of playing time this season and the other being his health:

"King told Auburn Live the lack of substantial playing time this season was part of the reason for him making this decision, but also said he is having some health issues without going into specifics. Those issues, though, have caused him to lose a little weight and have limited his ability."

Luckily, Ike Hilliard’s position group has a lot of depth, so while a more solid rotation of receivers is built out through the rest of the Auburn football season, Landen King can take the time he needs to get healthy.
