Halfway through the 2022 season, it feels like the Auburn football program is crashing and burning to a lot of fans. The team is struggling with only one conference win and everyone is just waiting for head coach Bryan Harsin to be relieved of his duties.

Despite all of this, somehow the Tigers seem to be on the verge of getting a big win in the recruiting world. 4-star IOL Clay Wedin announced earlier this week that he would be backing off his pledge to Michigan State and reopening his recruitment.

Wedin is ranked as the #389 overall prospect and the #22 inside offensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 as well as the #73 recruit out of the state of Florida. He committed to the Spartans in June, but the Auburn football coaching staff never stopped recruiting him, per Auburn Live:

"“They’ve let me know that I’m a valuable target and that I’m still a take for them,” Wedin said after the recent visit. “They’re still trying to get me to be a Tiger.”"

The IOL was last on the Plains two weeks ago for an unofficial visit during the LSU game and enjoyed his experience in Jordan-Hare during an SEC night game. Wedin has no other visits planned, so it seems likely that his recent de-commitment is a good sign for Harsin and the Tigers.

Should he commit, Wedin would be the third offensive lineman committed in the class of 2023 alongside Bradyn Joiner and Gernorris Wilson, marking the first time since 2017 that the Tigers signed three high school offensive linemen in one class, according to Christian Clemente. He is being recruited to play either guard or tackle.

With the de-commitment having already taken place, it’s likely that Clay Wedin joins the Tigers’ class of 2023 very soon.
