Auburn football fans react to Gus Malzahn’s Space Game gag

Former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn seems to be having a lot of fun in his new gig at the University of Central Florida. At least certainly a lot more fun than Bryan Harsin is having, hearing his job security constantly discussed on the Plains.

UCF has recovered from a Week 2 loss to Louisville as a touchdown favorite by dispatching every conference foe and Georgia Tech so far in the program’s final season in the American Athletic Conference before making a Big 12/Power Five jump in 2023. The Knights are 4-1 in Malzahn’s second season after winning nine games in year 1.

Meanwhile, Auburn football has already dropped to .500 — barely escaping with a win over Missouri on September 24, which would have likely been the end of Harsin’s time coaching the Tigers after just a season and a half in charge — having been blown out by ranked Georgia and Penn State programs and having lost a 17-point lead to LSU in an October 1 heartbreaker.

Malzahn and UCF have one of their biggest games of the schedule on October 13: the Space Game. As a three-touchdown favorite over Temple, the action will be secondary to the attire. Paying homage to their former history as the Citronauts and the university’s ties to NASA, the Knights will be rocking anodized black uniforms with Canaveral blue numbers and ‘Space U’ on the front.
