Halfway through the 2022 season, the Auburn football team is still struggling to find an identity on the offense, and are therefore struggling to string together plays into successful drives down the field. If the Tigers hope to find any success over the Ole Miss Rebels this weekend on the road, they are going to have to win the turnover battle.

Auburn football is down bad when it comes to turnovers this season, with a turnover ratio of -9 and 17 fumbles so far, with the quarterbacks alone accounting for 10 of them. Starting quarterback Robby Ashford has fumbled the ball seven times so far.

As head coach Bryan Harsin loves to preach, the Tigers must focus on the small details and execution in the game. Ashford needs to remember his fundamentals, even holding the ball correctly, and do every little thing he can to protect the ball in his remaining games.

On the flip side, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxon Dart–although pretty accurate–sometimes has a tendency to throw into traffic, so the Auburn defense will need to capitalize on the Rebs’ errors. The Tigers’ struggling offense could use all the help it can get, and picking up a fumble or grabbing an interception could be a big factor in this weekend’s game.

Eliminating silly mistakes and taking care of the ball will be of the utmost importance for the Tigers’ offense, as they must sustain drives down the field–not only to score points but also so the defense has time to regroup before getting back out on the field.

Ball security must be a number one priority for Auburn football this weekend as they head out on the road to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford.
