Auburn football: Brain trust would like to see Deion Sanders get legitimate look
The Auburn football head coaching role might be filled by incumbent Bryan Harsin for the duration of the 2022 season, but until he is inevitably removed as the Tigers continue to freefall down the SEC West standings, who his replacement will be is set to continue to get talked about.
Popular Auburn head coaching target Deion Sanders stoked the fires of him taking a Power Five head coaching job when he said on 60 Minutes that he’d be a fool not to entertain offers from interested suitors.
“I’m going to have to entertain it,” Sanders said. “Straight up. I’d be a fool not to.”
So with that proclamation, the rumor mill once again returns the ‘Prime Time’ to the Plains narrative to the forefront of Auburn football conjecture. On3’s Justin Hokanson only further advanced that idea with his reporting that ‘there are some around Auburn that would like to see Deion Sanders at least get a legitimate look’:
Auburn football is a strong contender for Deion Sanders
While Deion Sanders temporarily silenced rumors about him making a Power Five jump in the aftermath of Alabama State head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. calling him out for not being SWAC, ‘Prime Time’ has since gone back to hyping up the possibility that a name-brand program could have him on its sidelines in 2023.
While Georgia Tech has been floated as a possibility due to his multi-sport ties to the city of Atlanta, Auburn football has been called a better fit by 247Sports due to the resources it is willing to allocate for the right fit.
Bryan Harsin is not seen as that guy by just about anyone, and based on the rumors of him and his staff refusing to make trips for recruiting, it’s not hard to imagine boosters not hearing from him regarding NIL resources. One has to imagine that wouldn’t be the case with Sanders running the ship.
Sanders is the kind of target the Tigers head coaching position needs, and from the sounds of it, Auburn football will be an option for Sanders when he inevitably takes his talents to the FBS level of NCAAF.
