Another Saturday, another Heisman-worthy Bo Nix showing while wearing an Oregon uniform. The Ducks rolled UCLA during a Week 8 Pac-12 matchup by a 45-30 margin, and Auburn football fans stewed during the Tigers’ bye week.

Nix completed 22/28 passes for 283 yards through the air and collected five touchdown tosses in the process — adding 51 yards on the ground for good measure. He already has more touchdowns in seven regular season games for the Pac-12 powerhouse that has won 4/11 Pac-12 titles since the conference expanded in 2011. Nix also had as many touchdowns today as every Auburn quarterback combined in 2022.

We knew coming into the season that reuniting with Kenny Dillingham — hired away from Mike Norvell’s Florida State staff in the offseason — was going to work wonders for Nix’s final season before likely making an NFL jump. What Auburn football fans didn’t quite expect was to see the dark horse Heisman meme from 2021 A-Day become legitimate college football discourse.

Tiger tears were flowing during the off-week as Nix torched the Bruins defense and moved his No. 10 Ducks up the rankings and towards a potential College Football Playoff berth, which at this point may be undeniable if they run the table and win the Pac-12 championship:

Auburn football misses Bo Nix and Gus Malzahn

It’s been two years since Gus Malzahn moved on to UCF after being fired, and one since Bo Nix was unconvinced that Auburn football was the best place for his post-graduate playing career, and the Tigers are facing hard times while the coach/quarterback duo are seeing career renaissances.

A COVID year may have derailed the program. Patience may have been needed during times that don’t seem so tough in hindsight (aka a winning record in an SEC-only season) but time only moves forward.

Anthony Schwartz seems to miss Malzahn and Nix, and many Auburn fans feel the same.
