Auburn football fans were gleeful about the naming of running backs coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams to the interim head coaching role in the wake of Bryan Harsin’s dismissal from the program after a season and a half.
Williams is the current Tigers running back coach and was a former star under Tommy Tuberville during the early 2000s. He ended up being the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Cadillac” will be the first Black head coach of Auburn football in its 120-year history as a program.
To celebrate, Tiger fans took to Twitter to proclaim joy in this passing of the torch from Harsin — who defeated four SEC teams in two years on the Plains — to someone who should be able to get the most out of Tank Bigsby (and the rest of the RB room) in his final four games before going pro himself (WARNING: NSFW LANGUAGE):
Auburn football has improved outlook for end of 2022 season
Carnell “Cadillac” Williams could have this Tigers team pounding the ball in the run game far more effectively, slowing down games to a grind against the remaining offensive-minded teams (minus Texas A&M) left on the schedule.
Mississippi State’s Air-raid in Starkville is first on the docket November 5, followed by an Aggies offense that just inserted Conner Weigman into the starting position with good results. The final two weeks will see Auburn football facing a top 25 scoring offense in Western Kentucky before the Iron Bowl against Bryce Young, Jahmyr Gibbs, and a high-powered Crimson Tide offense that hung with Tennessee’s top-ranked offense in Knoxville on October 15.
No matter how this all plays out, Auburn has an improved outlook ahead of their final stretch in 2022 than they did before today.
