A new era of Auburn football is upon us in Week 10 as the Tigers take the 240+ mile drive to Starkville to battle Mississippi State in Carnell “Cadillac” Williams coaches his first game with the interim head coach label.

Williams’ insertion into the head coaching role breaks barriers and gives AU a new voice after Bryan Harsin was sent packing from the Plains on Halloween day. In the aftermath of Cadillac’s coronation in front of the team, 247Sports’ Nathan King reported that he heard someone say the Tigers were going to run the ball all day long at the Auburn football facility.

If that’s the case for Auburn’s first game ABH (after Bryan Harsin) then they picked a good opponent to keep the ball away from. Mississippi State features a gunslinger in Will Rogers who has already gone for 23 touchdowns in 2022 and sports a Mike Leach air-raid offense that has garnered praise from Nick Saban — though Jimbo Fisher downplayed it as not much of a complex system.

With a middling defense and a lot of points laid, the Bulldogs host the Tigers in a pivotal clash with bowl implications for Auburn. Fly War Eagle has your odds and a prediction for the ESPN2-broadcast SEC matchup under the lights (All lines courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook):

Mississippi State vs. Auburn prediction

This season has seen the Tigers lose big to top teams (Georgia, LSU, Penn State) and last week’s loss against Arkansas could turn out to be one too if the Razorbacks correct course and finish the schedule strong.

LSU and Mizzou were close games, and this one figures to be too. Fly War Eagle isn’t quite optimistic enough and to predict an upset, but Mississippi State is not two touchdowns better than an Auburn football team that has more momentum than it has had in over a year.

Prediction: Auburn +13.5 (-110)
