With Bryan Harsin officially out on the Plains, all eyes are on the coaching search currently being conducted by the Auburn football program. Harsin spent less than two years on the Plains, coaching the Tigers to their first losing season since 2012 and then being fired before finishing up his second stint.
In the eyes of Auburn football fans, the program is struggling in all aspects, but one of the most glaring issues is recruiting. Clearly, the “non-Auburn” out of the box hire didn’t work, so now the Tigers need a solid, exciting hire to get the program back on an upward trajectory and back to a place where it can compete with neighbors Alabama and Georgia.
Fan favorites in the coaching search are without a doubt Lane Kiffin and Deion Sanders. Rumor has it Kiffin wanted the job the last time around, but ultimately the job went to Harsin. Now, Kiffin and the Rebs are staring down the only obstacle keeping them from heading to Atlanta for the first time in program history in Alabama, and Tiger fans are put in the terrible position of kind of hoping Alabama wins? It’s for a good cause, right?
And that cause would be securing Kiffin as the next head coach of Auburn football. According to Justin Hokanson, the powers that be are taking a good look at the Rebels’ head coach:
Though Deion Sanders is obviously the choice that would make the biggest splash in the recruiting world, there’s no doubt that Kiffin could do a good job, especially when it comes to the transfer portal, and with the way the Tigers’ recruiting efforts have been going, the portal will be hugely important for getting new talent to the team.
