Auburn basketball will open up the 2022-23 season at the Neville Arena on Monday, November 7 hosting the Atlantic-10’s George Mason. The Patriots finished with a 14-16 record and at 7-9 in the conference.
AU, of course, finished up with an SEC regular season championship and a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2022 March Madness tournament. Unfortunately, they also lost during the SEC tournament’s opening game against Texas A&M and were eliminated in the Round of 32 by the No. 10-seeded Miami Hurricanes.
The Tigers lost their top two players, Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler, to the NBA this past June. In their place, Johni Broome and Yohan Traore were brought in from the transfer portal and the aftermath of Will Wade’s departure from LSU, respectively. More than likely, it’ll be Jaylin Williams and Dylan Cardwell that will pick up the lion’s share of the frontcourt minutes out of the gate given their experience under Bruce Pearl.
Pearl has led Auburn basketball to historic heights as head coach, getting the program to its first No. 1 overall ranking in the country last season. Given the disappointing ending to last season, the Tigers could be out for blood this season in pursuit of an elusive first ever NCAA National Championship.

George Mason vs. Auburn prediction
Auburn basketball put down Division II Alabama-Huntsville in its first exhibition game, and while the Tigers took a bit to get warmed up, they eventually put the Chargers down in the second half due to vast physical advantages.
Expect the same against George Mason in their home-opener, with far more energy from a jam-packed Jungle against inferior competition.
Prediction: Auburn -13.5 (-110)
