One of the more popular names being reported as a potential replacement Auburn football head coach for the recently-fired Bryan Harsin has been former Georgia defensive coordinator and current Oregon head coach Dan Lanning.

Lanning and AU allegedly have mutual interest according to Auburn Daily’s Lance Dawe, but an Oregon beat writer in the Portland area is reporting the opposite.

John Canzano, a radio host and columnist on the Oregon Ducks beat, tweeted Sunday night accusing Dawes of not actually asking Lanning himself about whether or not there is mutual interest between he and Auburn football for the head coaching job:

Canzano went on to say in the threat that he asked Lanning himself and confirmed that there was no interest:

Tiger fans were quick to point out that Canzano said similar things last year regarding Mario Cristobal leaving Oregon for Miami:

Lane Kiffin is the front-runner for the Auburn football head coaching job

Ole Miss is no longer in the driver’s seat to make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship with LSU knocking off Alabama. Facing the juggernaut Georgia Bulldogs is now LSU’s privilege to lose with three weeks left in the 2022 regular season.

With the Rebels’ national relevancy fading fast — with a loss to Alabama on November 12 likely ending any hopes of making their first College Football Playoff — Lane Kiffin could find that he’s maxed out how high he can elevate Ole Miss.

With Mississippi state law preventing contracts longer than four years at a time, Auburn football has a chance to sweep Kiffin off his feet with a massive contract offer to take his highest profile coaching job since he was leading the USC Trojans a decade ago.

Kiffin was listed as the front-runner for Tigers head coach in the immediate aftermath of Bryan Harsin’s firing last week, and until he re-ups with the Rebels, he should be considered a flight-risk from Oxford.
