The debut of Carnell “Cadillac” Williams as interim Auburn football head coach was spectacular and even had some fans thinking that the coaching search could eventually be suspended for the incumbent, who was instilled in the seat in the aftermath of Bryan Harsin’s firing on Halloween morning.

While Williams must have had the halftime speech of the season for the Tigers — and let’s be honest, given what we’ve seen in 2022, it undoubtedly was — he likely will revert back to the running backs coach role or to the offensive coordinator position if he remains on staff when the eventual replacement is hired.

Speaking of, the top name to watch in the search for the next Auburn football head coach just trolled Nick Saban, continuing a personal rivalry with the Alabama head coach that could eventually spill into the Iron Bowl if the brain trust has its way this winter.

Here’s Lane Kiffin’s “goat fuel” for Saban via his personal Twitter — sharing a photo of AL.com reporter John Talty’s book “The Leadership Secrets of Nick Saban” in front of the Crimson Tide’s 2022 defensive call sheet:

Auburn football candidate Lane Kiffin could drift further away from Ole Miss during Week 11

Earlier this season, Lane Kiffin was critical of the Ole Miss student section for emptying the stands of Vaught–Hemingway Stadium during a Week 4 non-conference matchup with Group of Five school Tulsa in a game that ended up being decided by one score. Kiffin cited his guys losing their edge when The Grove stole what should be the team’s most spirited fans. That created a schism within the program that could grow should Alabama essentially knock Ole Miss out of College Football Playoff contention with a win in Oxford this Saturday.

Should Ole Miss finish the season taking a step back from last season — a distinct possibility given the improvements of their Egg Bowl opponent Mississippi State — Kiffin would move closer to a jump to the Auburn football head coaching job.
