The start of the Carnell “Cadillac” Williams era of Auburn football was almost perfect. Down 24-6 at halftime to Mississippi State in Starkville., Williams rallied his team to go up at two different points in the second half before they ultimately fell 39-33 in overtime.

What was most inspiring about the near-comeback from the Tigers was the lack of quit. During the October 29 loss to Arkansas, Auburn football came out in the second half looking flat across the board (at home to boot) and allowed a 17-13 deficit spiral into a 31-13 insurmountable Razorbacks lead. Against the Bulldogs on November 5, AU was the team to score double digits and pitch a shutout in the third quarter.

Cadillac’s Auburn Tigers are not the pushovers Bryan Harsin’s were against Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Penn State earlier in the season. With an AU alum leading the charge and focusing on the long-term impact he’ll have on these kids, we saw a program playing with pride and in unison.

Now, this group will run out onto Pat Dye Field for Williams’ first game as head coach inside Jordan-Hare Stadium in front of 86,000+ fans just as he used to as a player against a 3-6 Texas A&M team that similarly comes into Week 11 riding a five-game losing streak.

Under Jimbo Fisher, the Aggies have spectacularly faltered in a season many predicted they had a chance to contend for a CFP spot. While they did compete with Alabama in a closely contested matchup, they were on the wrong side of the result column against South Carolina and Ole Miss before they were beaten by three scores by a middling Florida.
