Former Auburn football defensive star Derrick Brown believes that the Tigers should remove the interim label from head coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams following the team’s first victory since September 24 during Week 11 on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Brown pleaded the case on his verified Twitter account in the moments following AU’s first victory on November 12, a 13-10 victory over Texas A&M. The win moved the Tigers out of the SEC West cellar and continued a nightmare season for the Aggies after they were projected to be a top College Football Playoff contender heading into the 2022 season.
In all caps, Brown demanded that Auburn football ‘put respect on coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams’ by giving him the promotion from running backs coach to interim head coach to the full-time HC of the Tigers:
Cadillac Williams: Auburn football is going to be okay
As part of four consecutive winning seasons, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams was part of a successful period of Auburn football. The past three seasons have been anything but, and Cadillac only began his role as running backs coach in 2019.
It’s not been his fault, coaching up the likes of JaTarvious “Boobie” Whitlow, Tank Bigsby, Shaun Shivers, and Jarquez Hunter behind an offensive line that was rarely up to snuff. Still, Williams has practically seen it all with AU from his playing days to his time on the coaching staff and the time in between.
When he says ‘Auburn football’s going to be OK,’ and that ‘it ain’t dead, baby, we comin,’ which he did in the postgame interview with SEC Network host and former AU offensive lineman Cole Cubelic, Tiger fans need to trust him.
Things appear to be getting better than they’ve been since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but obviously, new AD John Cohen needs to make the right call at head coach for that statement to be realized.
