The ‘Bunker’ message board on the AU Rivals page has some intense debates relating to any and all Auburn football developments. Naturally. While there’s plenty of spam and trolling in those parts, there are also some nuggets like this that certainly stir discussion for a fanbase that is waiting on things to flip and for the Tigers to be SEC West contenders again.

One message board user is claiming to have had a discussion with someone in the know regarding the contract details of the next head coach of Auburn football — currently tabbed to be Lane Kiffin according to anyone following the coaching search.

Here was what Message Board Geniuses, a Twitter page chronicling the celebrations, the crazy, and everything in between for the various NCAA message boards, shared from ‘Bunker’: a doozy of a reveal that feels too crazy to be true:

Auburn football isn’t going to pay Lane Kiffin that much

Doing the simple $120 million figure divided by the 10-year contract length shared in the ‘Bunker,’ this user believes Lane Kiffin is going to make $10 million — a smidge lower than what Nick Saban made in 2022 ($10.95 million) on his most recent contract extension back in August.

If new AD John Cohen comes in and makes Kiffin one of the richest coaches in the country as his first act on the Plains, it’d be a massive gamble. It could take little time for the fanbase to turn on him for potentially overpaying a coach who hasn’t yet reached the College Football Playoff, making him the third highest-paid coach after multiple CFP champion HCs (Saban, Dabo Swinney) and ahead of Brian Kelly, who made several CFPs at Notre Dame and still has a pathway to one in 2022 in his first season leading LSU.

Kiffin to Auburn does genuinely seem imminent, but being at this number sounds like a far-fetched possibility.
