Lane Kiffin is either the biggest troll on the planet and is teasing Auburn football fans in unfathomable ways, or he just tipped his hat that he’ll be leaving Ole Miss to come to the Plains in 2023 and beyond.
On the afternoon of November 21, Kiffin took to Twitter to share former Saturday Down South writer and current 247Sports writer Brad Crawford’s article entitled ‘The top offensive rushing teams in SEC history’ from seven years ago.
Why is that significant you may ask? Well for a few reasons — the most obvious being that Auburn football claims the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 7 entries on that list. Alabama, his former stomping grounds when he served under Nick Saban as offensive coordinator during a tumultuous period in Tuscaloosa, also claims three entries.
The next significant reason is that AU currently has amassed 778 rushing yards (259 per game) since Bryan Harsin was fired and Carnell “Cadillac” Williams took over. Could Kiffin be hinting at taking over the current high-powered rushing attack in Auburn?
Tiger fans are certainly hoping so…
What potential future Auburn football head coach Lane Kiffin’s tweet could have also meant
Lane Kiffin to Auburn football seems like more and more of a probability as the weeks go by and Ole Miss seemingly moves towards a big step back from last season to this one with an already worse regular season record even before the Egg Bowl.
Still, there could be another meaning to this tweet.
Through 11 games, Ole Miss has 3,061 yards. That’s 377 yards less than the No. 7 entry on that list, the 1985 Bo Jackson-led Auburn Tigers. With another big night from Quinshon Judkins, Zach Evans, and the rest of the Rebels RB room/receivers — plus quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has rushed for 552 yards in 2022 — Ole Miss could burst into that top seven.
Kiffin is a mastermind who is keeping us guessing, all while he awaits the payday of a lifetime this offseason from some university with hopes of him getting their program into many record books.
