The Auburn football team is gearing up for their biggest game of the season in the annual rivalry game known as the Iron Bowl. The Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend to take on the two-loss Tide in the final regular-season matchup.

While Alabama is certainly beatable this year and there is always a big lead up to the Iron Bowl, this year the conversations surrounding the Auburn football program are dominated by discussions of who will be the next head coach.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is currently believed to be the favorite, and according to Jon Sokoloff, Kiffin is planning to step down from his position with the Rebs this Friday and agree to join the Tigers. Although Kiffin shot down the report on Twitter, it came from the same reporter who broke the news about the Tigers’ Athletics Director hire, so it’s possible it’s true.

However, according to fellow FanSided site BamaHammer, an Auburn win in the Iron Bowl would factor into the coaching search by propelling interim head coach Cadillac Williams to the forefront:

"What if Auburn is reluctant to make an announcement, and possibly even a decision, until after the Iron Bowl? If the Tigers somehow upset the Crimson Tide, not giving Cadillac Willaims a head coaching shot will not sit well with many Auburn fans. An Auburn win in Tuscaloosa could mean the outcome of one SEC football game could determine a coaching hire."

There is no denying that everyone loves Coach Caddy. He is an Auburn man through and through and he stepped up in a big way for a team and fanbase that has struggled all season long. However, Cadillac does not have the right kind of experience to be the head coach, and it is widely believed that at this time he is not interested in being the head coach.

It’s extremely necessary that Cadillac stays with Auburn football and is maybe given a bigger role than just running backs coach, but there is no need to force the job on a guy with young kids who maybe isn’t ready yet. While many would love to see Cadillac at the helm, it’s likely not his time yet even if the Tigers do pull off a big win in this weekend’s Iron Bowl.
