Former Auburn football star Derrick Brown, who was selected with the No. 7 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has made it known who he supports to be named the next head coach of the Tigers in 2023 and beyond.
During the Iron Bowl, the current Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Brown said that the most important thing the program needs is a leader of men, as opposed to someone who is more of an X’s and O’s focused coaching candidate.
Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, the brave running backs coach-turned-interim head coach following the October 31 firing of Bryan Harsin, fits the description of the ideal candidate Brown is looking for:
Cadillac Williams is a unanimously appreciated Auburn football coaching candidate
There are tons of flaws with the current head coaching frontrunner for 2023 and beyond, Hugh Freeze. Beyond what he was caught doing with his university-issued phone at Ole Miss and the downright disturbing stories from his Briarcrest Christian School days, Freeze’s Liberty Flames just got torched by New Mexico State 49-14. While Freeze’s coaching performance at Liberty has been exemplary since he took over in 2019, he’s taken three objectively bad losses in a row to New Mexico State, Virginia Tech, and UCONN — and that Arkansas loss has lost luster considering their loss to Mizzou on Black Friday.
While Freeze can and has divided the Auburn football fanbase with a potentially polarizing hire on tap, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams would be a universally loved hiring, even from those who don’t feel he’s quite ready for the job. With a squeaky clean background and a history of success as a player and an interim head coach thrown into the fire, Williams has few detractors and his character is not and has never been in question.
