The 2022 season was going to be of the utmost importance for Bryan Harsin, and when he failed to deliver a promising Auburn football team, the program ultimately decided to part ways with the second-year head coach.
Speculation began immediately about who would be the next head coach on the Plains, with the fan favorite being Lane Kiffin. Though the deal seemed finished according to the internet, Kiffin ultimately decided to stay at Ole Miss and the powers that be at Auburn turned their attention to Hugh Freeze.
Once it became apparent that Freeze was a real option, there was plenty of pushback from Auburn football fans in the form of emails and tweets to the Athletics Director, President, and more. Even folks outside of the Auburn community got involved in the outreach.
People pointed out all the baggage that comes along with Freeze, from his resignation at Ole Miss to the allegations from girls that attended a Memphis high school where Freeze was previously employed to the current investigation being conducted at Liberty.
However, according to multiple outlets, Freeze is still very much being considered for the position right now. Justin Hokanson of Auburn Live tweeted out his coaching search update, with a tidbit that was music to many people’s ears: “There’s belief this ends today.”
Regardless of who you would like to be named the next head coach of Auburn football, we can all agree that this has been a long, draining search process and it is one of the most important hires for the program in a number of years. Hopefully, we will get some answers today.
