After a long, drama-filled coaching search on the Plains, it has officially been announced that Hugh Freeze will be the next head coach of Auburn football. While the decision is considered controversial by many, the Auburn administration has thoroughly vetted Freeze and Athletics Director John Cohen has decided he is the best man for the job.
Freeze’s first big win on the Plains has already happened, and that was when he kept Cadillac Williams on the staff as running backs coach but also gave him the Associate Head Coach position, as well.
At the end of the day, we as Auburn football fans need to remember that the most important people in this situation are the players themselves. These young athletes are representing the university, and are also working hard to improve at their game while getting a degree. Freeze spoke at his press conference about working to make sure that the football players on the Plains excel on and off the field.
Meanwhile, the players themselves, as well as commits to the 2023 and 2024 classes, took to Twitter to react to the hiring of a new head coach:
While Hugh Freeze may not have been the most popular hire or the one that everyone wanted, it’s clear that he has a passion for Auburn and is going to work hard to elevate the football program back to a competitive level. With the support of the players and Cadillac Williams, hopefully Coach Freeze will have the opportunity to truly turn the program around.
