Former Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin spent his last day inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on November 30 for the Alabama 7A state championship game, but it doesn’t appear he’ll be getting back into the coaching mix just yet.
Colorado, who was a fan of Harsin’s previous recruiting experience in the Lone Star State during his tenure as Texas quarterbacks coach, appears to be moving in on their preferred head coaching candidate — someone who was a longshot Auburn football head coaching candidate to replace Harsin on the Plains.
That’d be Deion Sanders, who according to Former USC defensive back and current CBS Sports analyst Su’a Cravens, is more than likely going to be the Buffs’ head coach for the 2023 season and beyond:
Charles Barkley wanted Auburn football to hire Deion Sanders
Charles Barkley, like a large portion of the Auburn football fanbase, wanted to see Deion Sanders hired to be the Tigers coach to combat Nick Saban in recruiting and in the Iron Bowl to bring to life their on-screen Aflac promotional rivalry.
While he vehemently supported Bryan Harsin and vows to do the same for Hugh Freeze, Barkley wanted ‘Prime Time’ on the Plains — something Bo Jackson warned that Auburn might not be ready for.
Ultimately, Sanders’ FBS jump ended up being far less of a departure from Jackson State, with Colorado — or even Cincinnati and USF, the other two teams still in the mix — than going to the SEC and battling the top teams year in and year out at AU.
