Lane Kiffin condescendingly trolls reporter who reported he’d be next Auburn football coach
Lane Kiffin is not letting go of his Twitter grudge against WCBI News reporter Jon Sokoloff, who incorrectly reported that Kiffin would be the next Auburn football head coach back during the week of the Egg Bowl.
On Tuesday, December 5, Kiffin quote-tweeted Sokoloff’s tweet providing information on Ole Miss’ Texas Bowl matchup with Texas Tech and wrote out a condescending sarcastic celebration about Sokoloff finally ‘reporting something accurate.’
Ouch.
Hugh Freeze out to prove Auburn football is better off with their Plan B coaching option
Lane Kiffin to Auburn football rumors dominated the news cycle for weeks before it culminated in an Egg Bowl night announcement that he would be getting a seven-year extension worth over $9 million a year. That was a contract length many had thought was impossible, and ultimately was paid for by Ole Miss’ private athletics foundation instead of through the state of Mississippi, who has a maximum contract length of four years.
Once the Kiffin hysteria died down, Hugh Freeze’s name was quick to appear next. While there was a wave of pushback on Iron Bowl Saturday, when his name first appeared, and an even bigger eruption of outrage the day he was hired, Freeze has said and done a lot of the right things as he begins a character redemption arc that could peak on the Plains.
Freeze may not earn the respect of many until he gets the job done on the football field, and he may never earn the respect of a certain portion of AU alumni due to his past transgressions, but the Oxford-born former Rebels coach is in the perfect position to prove that he was the right call all along as opposed to Kiffin.
He’s already stolen his offensive line coach, so who’s to say Freeze isn’t going to steal the SEC spotlight Kiffin has been basking in the last two years with Auburn football experiencing down-years.
