Auburn football pursuing two Ole Miss commits ahead of signing day
Hugh Freeze and those who have been officially tabbed as part of the next coaching staff of Auburn football have been working hard to make up for lost time on the recruiting trail up until early national signing day on December 21.
So far, the Tigers have only 11 commits in their 2023 class, and rank 51 overall and last in the SEC when it comes to recruiting. Auburn has the fewest number of commits in the SEC, as well, tied with Texas A&M.
While there is plenty of uncommitted talent left in prospects that are holding off until the end of the month to commit, Freeze and his coaching staff are not shying away from going after recruits that have already given a verbal pledge to other schools. Now, Auburn football isn’t trying to poach a head coach, but instead high school commits from Ole Miss.
With Jake Thornton’s move from Oxford to the Plains as the Tigers’ next offensive line coach, two offensive recruits are already receiving attention from the Tigers. Marcel Reed is a 4-star quarterback out of Tennessee, and committed to the Rebs back in April as the #18 quarterback in the class of 2023.
According to the Grove Report, Reed has a scheduled meeting with Freeze today, but he will have to beat out Texas A&M, who visited the quarterback last weekend and is expected to visit again.
Also considering Auburn football is 4-star inside offensive lineman Brycen Sanders. The #10 IOL in the recruiting class of 2023 and the #5 recruit out of the state of Tennessee, Sanders has a strong relationship with Thornton, which could end up working in the Tigers’ favor.
The Grove Report indicates that if Sanders ends up on Auburn’s campus for a visit in the next two weeks, it’s likely that he will flip to the Tigers, which would be massive for a team with such a big need on the o-line.
