The early signing period for the class of 2023 is a little under two weeks away, and the Auburn football staff have been working hard to make the most of the recruiting time. Head coach Hugh Freeze and other members of staff have been on the road visiting various recruits, including a few that are already committed to other programs.

Recruiting top talent out of high school is important, especially this year when the state of Alabama has produced so many quality prospects, but with the Tigers’ immediate need for depth in multiple positions, Freeze has mentioned before that he plans to lean heavily on the transfer portal in his first year on the Plains.

Multiple recruits will be headed to Auburn’s campus this weekend for official visits, and two of them are prospects that have put their names in the transfer portal and are coming from other programs.

The first is former Charlotte offensive lineman Jordan Brown. He primarily played left tackle for the 49ers, debuting this past season, but also played a role on special teams. After redshirting his first season in 2021, he will have three years of eligibility left at his next stop, and has already received multiple offers from schools such as Syracuse and Missouri.

The second is former Oregon wide receiver Dont’e Thornton. The Tigers had great success with their transfers from Oregon last season in DJ James, Jayson Jones, and Robby Ashford, and are hoping to add another former Duck to the club.

Though Thornton played in only four games as a freshman, his production greatly increased in 2022, and he pulled in 17 receptions for 366 yards and one touchdown. The Tigers are looking to take multiple receivers from the portal, and Auburn football has the potential to end up with both RaRa Thomas and Dont’e Thornton.
