Current Auburn football DL Jayson Jones, who committed to the Tigers last December after taking to the transfer portal, hinted another Oregon transfer could be on his way to the Plains during the current recruiting cycle.
Responding to a Tiger fan begging ‘Auburn Jesus’ for Ducks receiver Dont’e Thornton on Twitter, Jones merely offered a wink — seemingly an indication that AU could soon add the six-foot-four former 4-star recruit out of Baltimore.
Thornton would be the fourth player in the last two years to join Auburn football from Oregon, joining Jones, standout cornerback DJ James, and starting quarterback Robby Ashford. Thornton is the lone Duck-turned-Tiger not originally from the state of Alabama.
Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze is beginning to flip recruits
Forget Christmas. Flipmas is here.
Hugh Freeze is starting to get key Class of 2023 additions with both Colton Hood, a cornerback who was previously committed to Michigan State, and offensive lineman Tyler Johnson, who had been committed to Texas Tech, committing to Auburn football on Sunday, December 11.
With two weeks to the day of the Christmas holiday, Tiger fans are getting early gifts in the form of recruiting victories from their much-maligned new head coach. While Freeze’s past will have the media on his case until the games start, and possibly after, the only thing he could do to win over the people that matter (i.e. the AU fanbase) is to get things done on the recruiting trail.
That’s evidently been the game plan, with a slew of transfer portal additions and Class of 2023 signees now coming after rumors of Freeze hitting the trail hard have been making fans antsy given the lack of commitments thus far.
The commitments are here, and as Marcus Peters once famously said, with Trovon Reed re-popularizing it on the Plains…
“We ain’t done yet.”
