Auburn basketball dropped two games during non-conference play, which may be disappointing to some Tiger fans that remember an undefeated run until deep into conference play during the 2021-22 season.

Then again, that Auburn team bowed out in the Round of 32 of the March Madness tournament — proving that while winning early in the campaign is important to a degree, it is certainly not the be-all, end-all.

While this season hasn’t inspired the most confidence overall, there is solid momentum from the Tigers marching into Seattle and blowing the doors off of the Washington Huskies to the tune of an 84-61 spread-covering throttling. Tre Donaldson has emerged as a potential second-unit floor general after the west coast swing against USC and UW, and the frontcourt duo of Johni Broome and Jaylin Williams have largely been productive in getting AU easy offense.

With the 7-5 Florida Gators coming to town, Auburn basketball has the chance to get off on the right foot against a middling SEC program in conference play. While the Gators feature future NBA big man Colin Castleton and a talented guard in Kyle Lofton, they largely lack the depth that the Tigers possess. Does that discount the Gators, or could Auburn be on upset alert in the last game of the year?

Florida vs. Auburn Prediction

Florida has been apart of some high-scoring affairs this season, and Auburn has also partaken in some high-octane firefights of late. With that said, because of the presence of two elite rim-protectors in Johni Broome and Colin Castleton — who both rank in the top 15 in the country in blocked shots — the over isn’t the safest bet.

What is? Auburn covering the spread at the Neville Arena to cap off a historic year for the program.

Prediction: Auburn -5.5 (-110)
