The Auburn football program had a pretty successful signing day under new head coach Hugh Freeze, but the work isn’t done yet. While there are still plenty of high school prospects that haven’t signed, the focus will also be on transfer portal prospects.

As teams finish up their bowl runs, we can expect more and more players to enter into the transfer portal before the 45-day window closes. While Freeze and his newly completed coaching staff will be looking for depth pieces in the portal, they will be looking for immediate talent to fill gaps left by departing players, as well.

When it comes to wide receivers, the Tigers have only one in the recruiting class of 2023 so far, and that is incoming freshman Daquayvious Sorey. The WR room is not in urgent need of bodies with plenty returners on the roster, but the Tigers have yet to find a standout receiver since the beginning of Bryan Harsin’s tenure on the Plains.

An early transfer target of the Tigers was Dont’e Thornton, former Oregon Duck, but at this point it looks like Miami—whose current head coach Mario Cristobal formerly coached Thornton in Eugene—is leading this recruitment. However, here are two more transfer portal wide receivers the Auburn football program should consider going after.

The first WR has plenty of SEC experience. Senior Tauski Dove announced last week that he would be parting ways with Missouri as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility at his next stop. Over four years at Mizzou, Dove totaled 86 receptions for 1,164 yards and three touchdowns.

The second WR is one the Tigers would be considering for a second time. Former Clemson Tiger EJ Williams hails from Phenix City, AL, just down the road from Auburn, and was recruiting by Gus Malzahn and his staff before ultimately choosing Clemson. In three seasons with the Tigers, Williams recorded 40 receptions for 442 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Tigers have a good amount of wide receivers returning, they are still looking for a big playmaker to catch passes.
